Why Jesus came down from heaven.
Why did Jesus come down from heaven? Why did Jesus come down to the earth? What did He come to do? What did He come to accomplish? If this is some of the questions you have been asking yourself then this teaching is for you.
Reason #1. Jesus came to the earth to reveal God the Father unto us humanity.
Read (John 1:18) (John 17:6, 26). In so that we may serve and worship the one true and living God through faith in him (Jeremiah 10:10) (1 Thessalonians 1:9). Yes, he came that we may serve His God and Father through faith in him. Read (John 14:6) (John 17:3) (Revelation 1:6). He came to deliver us from the kingdom of darkness and to bring us into the kingdom of light. He came that we may turn from Satan and now turn to the living God (Acts 26:18). He came to deliver us from the evil one's grip and to bring us into His Father's kingdom. You may not know this, but the Scriptures say before you came to Christ you were enemies of God because of your sins (Romans 5:9-11) (Colossians 1:20-22). Your sins had separated you from God and the wrath of God was upon you (John 3:36). Unknowingly or knowingly you worshipped the father of all lies (the Devil) (John 8:44) by following the ways of this world with all its lustful evil desires and practices (Ephesians 2:1-22). Jesus came to reveal the one true and living God. Jesus said those who truly love God will love him (John 8:42). This is because He (Jesus) came from God the Father (John 1:14) (John 6:46) (John 7:29) (John 8:42) (John 13:1-3) (John 16:30-31) (John 17:8). This is because if you've seen Jesus you've seen God! For Jesus is God in the flesh (John 1:1-3, 14) (Philippians 2:6-11) (John 20:28) (Hebrews 1:8). Jesus said, "If you've seen me you've seen the Father (John 14:7-11)." Why? This is because He (Jesus Christ) is the visible image of the invisible God. Read (Colossians 1:15).
Reason #2. Jesus came to the earth to do the will of God the Father.
What is the will of God the Father one may ask? Read (John 6:38-41) for your answer. What does God the Father want us to do? Read John (6:28-29) (Mark 1:15) (Mark 16:15) (Ezekiel 18:32) (1 John 3:23-24) (1 John 4:21) for your answers.
Reason #3. Jesus came to the earth to save us from His Father's wrath of condemning us to eternal punishment in hell because of our sins and rebellion against him the Lord God almighty.
What does it mean to be saved? And what are we saved from? When many Christians say I'm saved they automatically think this means I'm going to heaven. This is true once you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior you will be saved and you will be granted everlasting life in heaven (John 3:16)(Acts 16:30-31)(Galatians 2:16)(John 10:9) (John 11:25-26) (Acts 4:12) (Romans 6:23) (1 John 5:11-13). But what it really means to be saved is this: You're saved from God's wrath that was righteously upon you because of your sins against him! When you sinned before you came to Christ, God's wrath was upon you because of your sins. But since you came to Christ and furthermore now that you have believed and received that Jesus is the Son of God whom God himself has sent to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:10), God has forgiven you of all your sins through Christ's sacrifice on the cross for you and God has graciously saved you when you believed in his Son Jesus. Thus you now have peace with God (Romans 5:1-10), you are in right standing with God (Romans 5:21), and furthermore you are forgiven of all your sins because God's anger and full wrath for your sins was satisfied in full on the cross when he punished Christ to save you (Colossians 2:13-15). This means you will be the few spared of God's wrath, and instead of his wrath falling upon you as you so justly deserve, he assures you and grants you mercy, forgiveness, loving kindness, safety and eternal life when he returns (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10) (Hebrews 9:28) and when you meet him on judgment day. And all because you believed in his Son Jesus to save you. Jesus assures you that anyone who believes in him will not (will not) be condemned but they have already passed from death into life. Jesus said in Scripture (John 5:24) "I assure you, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life." Also Read (John 11:25) (Ephesians 2:1-10) (Titus 3:5-7).
Reason #4. Jesus came to the earth to be our mediator. Yes, He (Jesus) came to the earth to reconcile us to God.
Read (Hebrews 8:5-7) (Hebrews 9:11-28). Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6). Jesus is the only mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:4-6). He (Jesus) is the bridge that connects sinful man (us) to a holy God. Without Jesus Christ (who is our mediator and Savior) we would never be forgiven by God for our sins and we would righteously perish in hell! I want you to just sit and dwell on that fact for a moment. With knowing that God has forgiven us of all our sins through Christ simply by what He Jesus did for us on the cross at Calvary, your attitude should now be I will serve Jesus in faithfulness with my whole heart now and forevermore. Yes, I will serve him as my Lord and Savior because He has rescued me from sin and death and He has forgiven me for all my sins, and furthermore he has given me the gift of everlasting life. Praise ye the Lord Jesus!
Reason #5. Jesus came to the earth to be our Savior. Yes, He (Jesus) came to the earth to be the Savior of the world.
Jesus came to the earth to save us and to forgive us of our sins. To save us from ourselves. You need to have faith in Jesus because he is your Savior and he is the only one who can save you. God the Father declares time and time again (in the Holy Bible) that without faith in Christ Jesus his Son you will not (you will not) be saved by him (John 3:16-18, 36) (John 14:6) (Acts 4:12). Jesus declared and warned that those who dare reject him as the Son of God have also rejected God the Father who sent him into the world (Luke 10:16)! For Jesus said, "the world's sin is unbelief in me (John 16:9)." I want you to read that statement again. Those who do not believe that Jesus is the Christ (who is God's only begotten Son) will perish in hell for their unbelief (John 8:24)! The Holy Bible says this "but without faith it is impossible to please God." (Hebrews 11:6) What God the Father is revealing, what God the Father is saying to mankind is this "Without faith in Jesus Christ his Son it is impossible to please him, and it is impossible to be saved by him." This is because he (Jesus) is the only way to him; yes He Jesus is the only way to God the Father. Read (John 14:6) (1 Timothy 2:4-6). People of the world Jesus is the sinner's Savior, and He (Jesus) is the only Savior of the world.
For Scriptures proving that Jesus Christ is our one and only Savior, and that he is our only hope for eternal salvation just read (Matthew 1:21)(Luke 24:47)(Acts 4:12)(Acts 10:43)(Acts 13:38)(Romans 6:23)(Romans 10:9-13)(John 3:16-18)(John 4:42)(John 10:9)(John 11:25-26)(John 17:3)(1 John 4:14)(1 John 5:11-13).
Reason #6. Jesus came to the earth to be our Substitute on the cross.
This simply means Jesus substituted his life for yours. He Jesus gave you his righteous life and he took your sinful life upon himself. God then condemned Jesus on the cross for your sins as if He (Jesus) was the sinner himself. The result is now you are free from condemnation and punishment not because there is none, but all because Jesus has already been condemned and punished for you on your behalf there at that cross. If you truly have understood all of what I just said unto you these facts of God should make you rejoice in gladness. Your whole heart should overflow with love and faithfulness to Jesus Christ your Savior who has saved you. Yes, God has forgiven you of all your sins through Christ Jesus His Son. Yes, God will treat you as if you lived the perfect sinless life of Christ, If you come to him by believing in him as the Son of God. This was all done by God's grace of saving you simply because you have obeyed him by believing in Christ Jesus His Son. Jesus died in so that you might live because of him. He took your death on the cross that you righteously deserved because of your sins and died in your place. Read (Isaiah 53). When you sinned, you deserved to die instantaneously and eternally. Why? This is because it is written "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23)." Every moment that you live past the moment that you have sinned is God's grace extended unto you. Why? Because it is written "For the wages of sin is death." Then one may ask why am I not dead yet? And the answer is found in one word "Grace." This is what I mean; when you sin, you should die instantaneously and eternally. A human being consists of a body and a soul. God should turn you back into the dust from whence you came. For it is written "The dust you came into the earth and the dust you shall return (Genesis 3:19) (Ecclesiastes 12:7)." Furthermore, God should then cast your soul into a place of eternal punishment called Hell (Luke 16:19-31). So why doesn't God do all of this? Why doesn't God punish us as our sins righteously deserve? Beloved if God punished us as our sins righteously deserved no humans would be left on the face of the planet. For we sin against God continually! So, this is what God does, God shows grace to us sinners through the gospel message. Why does God show you this amazing grace? The first reason is because God loves you and I more than we humans can ever begin to fathom. The second reason why God extends his grace to us is because faith in Jesus as the Son of God (Acts 16:30-31) (John 3:16-18) (Romans 10:9-13) is essential to your eternal salvation. And it is God's will that none should perish but that all will come unto him in repentance and come to faith in Jesus His Son whom He has sent. God does not (does not) want anyone to perish but He wants all to be saved by and through His Son Jesus. Read (2 Peter 3:9)(Ezekiel 18:32)(John 3:16-18)(John 5:24)(John 6:28-29)(1 John 3:23-24)(1 John 5:11-13).
Reason #7. Jesus came to the earth to die.
Jesus' whole reason for living (His whole reason for becoming a man that is and being sent to earth) was to die and to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:10). And Jesus' whole reason for dying was in so that we may live for the Father through him now and forevermore and no longer live for ourselves. Jesus died a violent agonizing death so that we may live eternally forevermore through faith in him (John 11:25). Jesus died in so that we may live eternally with him and His Father. Jesus died for us people of the world, now we must die to ourselves (die to our selfish desires and selfish ambitions that is) and live for him.
Reason #8. Jesus came to the earth to be our sin offering, to be our sin bearer, and to be our sacrificial Lamb.
To be the Lamb of God (John 1:29-36). Yes, He (Jesus) came to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:10). But not only for our sins but for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2). Yes, to all those who will receive him (Jesus) as the Son of God will become instantaneously and eternally the children of God. Everyone is a creation of God, but not everyone is a child of God. You only become a child of God when you sincerely receive and believe in God's Son the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:12). You only become a child of God when you believe in the sacrificial Lamb who died on the cross for your sins. The sacrificial Lamb is Jesus Christ himself. Yes, He (Jesus) is indeed the one whom God has sent into the world to forgive us and to save us from our sins. Jesus is the Lamb of God (1 Peter 1:18-19) and He (Jesus) is the Lord our God. Read (Luke 24:47) (John 1:29-36) (John 3:16-18) (John 4:42) (John 5:24) (John 6:28-29) (John 17:3) (John 20:31) (Acts 4:12) (Acts 10:43) (Acts 13:38) (Romans 3:19-31) (Romans 6:23) (Romans 10:9) (Hebrews 7:27) (1 Peter 3:18) (1 John 2:2) (1 John 4:14) (Revelation 1:6).
Reason #9. Jesus came to the earth to destroy the works of the devil once and for all.
Read (1 John 3:8). And he did that on the cross at Calvary. Read (Colossians 2:13-15). Yes, Jesus destroyed the works of the devil by his death, by his burial, and by his physical (bodily) resurrection from the dead! Hallelujah to the Lamb of God! Jesus conquered and defeated sin and death for us once and for all by his death, burial, and physical (bodily) resurrection. See Reason #14 for this revelation to be revealed in full unto you.
Reason #10. Jesus came to the earth to bring truth to the world.
John 18:37 (NLT)
37Pilate replied, "You are a king then?" "You say that I am a king, and you are right," Jesus said. "I was born for that purpose. And I came to bring truth to the world. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true."
John 18:37(KJV)
37Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered; Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
Enough said. Everyone who loves the truth will come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus came to bring God's Good News of salvation unto us humanity. This salvation can only come through him (Jesus). Yes, eternal salvation can only be achieved through believing in the person of Christ Jesus as the Son of God. Read (Romans 6:23) (John 3:16) (John 8:24) (Acts 4:12) (1 John 5:11-13).
Reason #11. Jesus came to the earth to be our Good and Great Shepherd.
Jesus is our Good and Great Shepherd? Explain this to me please? Answer revealed below.
Ask anyone who knows anything about herding and or tending to sheep and they will tell you that sheep without their Shepherd will wander off, be scattered, and die. They will tell you that without the guidance, direction, and care of the Shepherd, they the sheep will be scattered, they will be lost, and they will surely perish. Sheep are utterly helpless without their shepherd. Jesus is the good and great Shepherd of the sheep people of the world, and we (his people that believe in him) are the sheep. The revelation is that without the guidance, direction, and care of the good and great Shepherd (who is Jesus) we the sheep (we his people who believe in him) will be scattered, we will be lost in sin and death, and we would all perish in hell. Jesus leads us onto the right path in which we should go. Which is the path of righteousness. Jesus leads us to the way everlasting, Jesus leads us to God the heavenly Father, Jesus leads us and places us on the narrow road that leads to life eternal which is He (1 John 5:11-13). He is the way (John 14:6), He is the door and gate (John 10:7-9) (Matthew7:13-14), and He is how we are saved (Acts 4:12)(John 3:16)(Romans 10:9-13). The Scripture that reveals Jesus is the good and great Shepherd and we who believe in him, thus those who believe in the Son of God are the sheep is found in John Chapter 10. Read it for your own study and growth in the faith. Jesus is the great Shepherd of the sheep by an everlasting covenant, signed with his blood. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen. Read (Hebrews 13:20-21). Jesus is our good and great Shepherd people of the world and we who believe in him are the sheep. Jesus said my sheep (meaning my followers, my disciples, my children) know my voice and they obey and follow me. Read (John 10:4, 27).
Reason #12. Jesus came to the earth to show us humans what He (God) is like.
Now we know what He (God) is like. If you want to know what He (God) is like than look no further than the person of Jesus Christ. Why is this you may ask? This is because Jesus is God in the flesh (John 1-3, 14)(John 20:28) (Philippians 2:6-8)(Hebrews 1:8). Jesus does everything in every situation what God would do (Hebrews 1:3). Why? This is because God himself is displayed in the very person of Christ Jesus (Colossians 1:19-22) (Hebrews 1:3). For it is written "God is love" (1 John 4:8) and He wants us to demonstrate this love to all people and to all his loving creation (1 John 3:23) (1 John 4:21).
Reason #13. Jesus came to the earth in so that we may have life and have it more abundantly.
John 10:10
10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Jesus wants you first to come to him for salvation. Read (John 6:37-41). After you are saved, he wants you to live by the Power of God's Spirit through faith in him. This is living the abundant life. You haven't lived until you know Jesus personally and the power of his resurrection. You haven't lived until you live by the power of the Holy Ghost. People of God we have no idea the joys and blessings we are missing by not leaning on God's Spirit. This is the abundant life that God gives. Those who call on God the Father with sincere hearts, coming in the name of His Son Jesus, living and praying by the Power of God's Spirit are the true children of God. The abundant life that God gives unto those who believe in His Son Jesus is an intimate personal relationship with him. The unbelievers do not have this intimate personal relationship with the one true God nor can they ever unless they first come to Christ (John 14:6). For this relationship is sacred and holy and only belongs, it is only reserved for the children of God. To commune and dine with the one true and living God through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ empowered by God the Holy Spirit is the best gift God could ever (ever) gives to us.
Reason #14. Jesus came to the earth to conquer and defeat sin and death for us once and for all.
How did Jesus conquer and defeat sin and death for us once and for all you may ask? The short answer is this: Jesus conquered and defeated sin and death for us by his death, burial, and physical resurrection. The full answer on exactly how he did that is revealed to you below.
This is how Jesus conquered and defeated sin for us. Jesus conquered and defeated sin for us by his death and burial. The Scriptures say this "For on the cross Jesus became sin" (This does not mean he became sin literally and this does not mean he became sin himself. We know this because he (Jesus) is sinless and perfect (1 Peter 1:19) (1 Peter 2:22) (1 Peter 3:18). He (Jesus) is the one who was without sin (1 John 3:5). What God is telling and showing us through this passage of Scripture is this "Jesus (himself) is the sin offering that we offer back to him (God) for the forgiveness of our sins. So, remember people of the world, Jesus is not sin, He is the sin bearer and He is the sin offering (Romans 8:1-3). Jesus is the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29). What God was showing and revealing to mankind was this "Jesus Christ on that cross represented sin before God's sight and before God's holy presence. People of the world before God's sight sin is shameful, ugly, and naked before him just as the sight of Jesus was on that cross. God views sin as abominable. What God was also revealing unto us is that "All sin (all sin) must be, and all sin will be condemned before God."
Jesus bore the sins of the whole world on and in his body (1 Peter 2:24). Jesus himself (his body that is) is the atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 2:2) (1 John 4:10)(Hebrews 7:27)(Ephesians 5:1-2)(1 Timothy 2:4-6)(Romans 3:25). So since Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and since Jesus bore the sins of the world on and in his body, and furthermore since Jesus represented sin on the cross, this ultimately meant when Jesus died, sin died, and when Jesus was buried, thus sin was buried. And, the eternal punishment (hell) that comes from sin died along with him. So once again when Jesus was buried this meant sin was buried and has been done away with. So, in conclusion Jesus had to die because it was essential, and it was the only way for sin to die. The only way for sin to die would be for Jesus to die for us. People of the world God condemned sin on and in the flesh of Christ. God punished Jesus on the cross for our sins by pouring his full wrath upon him. Jesus died, and this meant sin died and was condemned on and in the flesh of Christ. The only way for our sins to be forgiven and to be taken away forever would be for Jesus to substitute his life for ours and for him to shed his perfect life's blood for us on the cross. This was God's only plan and option for us mankind to ever be redeemed. Praise God that He Jesus did this for us!
So in God's eyes when you believe in the death, burial, and bodily resurrection of his Son Jesus, your sins have been nailed to the cross of Christ with Christ Jesus himself (Galatians 5:24), and your sins have died and been buried along with Christ himself (Romans 6:1-18) (Colossian 2:11-15). This is good news my people! Do you have any idea what this means of what I just said unto you? Here's the revelation revealed unto you "This means your sins and the eternal punishment for them have been buried with the death of Jesus our Savior (who is your Savior). Thus, your free from punishment and condemnation not because there is none, but because Jesus your substitute and Savior has already paid your punishment for sin in full from God the Father on that cross at Calvary. On that cross God condemned Jesus instead of condemning you. Yes, Jesus took your condemnation for you. This is why Jesus is called your substitute. Because He is! Now God remembers your sins no more. Because once again the full punishment and the full payment for your sins has been paid in full unto God by Jesus' own shed blood on the cross. This means by Jesus' sacrificial substitutionary death on the cross for you and me, we are now free from our righteous condemnation for our own sins . So once again sin has been conquered and defeated through the death of Jesus' body on the cross and when he was ultimately buried.
This is how Jesus conquered and defeated death for us. Jesus conquered and defeated death for us by his glorious physical resurrection from the dead. The physical resurrection of Christ is where our whole faith, hope and assurance rest on my people. If Jesus Christ had not risen physically from the grave people of the world our whole hope and faith in Christ Jesus would be worthless and would be in vein (1 Corinthians 15:12-17). Why is this one may ask? If Jesus didn't arise from the grave, then this would have meant he was not the Son of God but rather just another man who died. But Jesus indeed arose physically from his grave three days after his death. Read (Matthew 16:21) (Matthew 28:6-8) (Mark 8:31) (Luke 9:22) (Luke 24:45-47) (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) (1 Thessalonians 1:10). And this physical risen Savior (Jesus) was witnessed by over 500 witnesses. Read (1 Corinthians 15:1-8).
So once again death was conquered for us when Jesus arose physically from the grave. Jesus conquered it because he proved he was victorious and triumphant over death because the grave could not hold him. And this physical risen Savior, yes, this same (Jesus) is alive now and forevermore (Revelation 1:18) and he can never die again (Romans 6:9)! He is the one who is interceding for all believers in him right now before God the Father (1 John 2:1-2) (Isaiah 53:12) (Romans 8:34) (Hebrews 7:25). He is your mediator (1 Timothy 2:4-6) who presents you faultless and blameless before a holy and perfect God (Colossians 1:19-22). Hallelujah!
In Conclusion
My people ultimately love is what brought Jesus down from heaven. Yes, his unfailing love for you and I is what brought him here to the earth. And love is what kept him on that cross at Calvary. The nails did not keep him on that cross, it was His love for you and I that kept him there. While he was there on that cross, he was thinking about you and your eternal destiny. Him dying there on that cross, taking our guilt, our punishment and our condemnation for our sins was the only way we would ever be saved by God the Father. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is God's only plan, it is God's only option for us humanity to be saved by Him. He Jesus loves you and I so much to an infinite degree that he would rather become a man and die himself than to see you die and thus perish in hell for all of eternity for your many sins. When you truly love someone, you would rather die yourself than to see them die. He Jesus did this for us on that cross at Calvary. On that cross at Calvary He Jesus substituted his life for ours. He died in our place in so that we may live eternally through faith in him. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest love story ever told. God does not want anyone to perish in hell therefore He Sent his Son Jesus into the world to save you. Oh, people of the world that you would believe in Jesus the Son of God today, by believing in him you will receive everlasting life and forgiveness of all your sins.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (Jesus),
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1 John 4:10
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he (God) loved us and sent his Son (Jesus) as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
With knowing all these wonderful facts of God, what should we now say? I'll tell you what we should now say, we should now say what the Scriptures say which is this "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God." Yes, we are the very children of the living God if we sincerely believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God! Read (1 John 3:1-3) (John 1:12). That should make you want to shout Hallelujah! Amen. This concludes our study on Why did Jesus come down from heaven, why did Jesus come down to the earth? May God continue to bless you in the mighty name of his Son the Lord Jesus Christ. Have a blessed and glorious day.
